Ogwen Mountaineering Festival
So the 2018 Gwyl Mynydda OGWEN Mountaineering Festival is over and what a week it was! #StormCallum upset things slightly by blocking the roads in and out of Bethesda at one stage as well as knocking out the electric to the venue for 4 hours on Friday and only coming back on an hour before Friday's lecture!! Thanks to everyone who made it to Neuadd Ogwen, Bethesda and also to everyone who supported the event in any shape or form. The festival has it's roots set firmly in the local community and we are grateful to the support from not only local councils and organisations but businesses and individuals also. A big thank you to Crib Goch Outdoor World Ltd our main sponsor for the continued belief in supporting a sustainable and bilingual mountain festival within North Wales. Thank you to Neuadd Ogwen, Bethesda and it's staff including the technical staff and volunteers. The week briefly consisted of a photography exhibition and festival launch by Andy Teasdale, visits to local schools by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation to highlight mountain safety, an evening lecture by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, Friday's inspiring speaker was Pat Parsons and Saturday evening saw Rebecca Coles present a diverse talk about her career and travels. On top of this we raised £115.02p for Bowel Cancer UK and £280.36 for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation and provided raffle prizes which ranged from bottles of beer to guide books to £50 vouchers as well as many others.A job well done! Keep an eye on our social media as we have events in place leading up to Christmas and also throughout 2019!!!!!
